September 30 - October 11

Welcome to another second grade blog post. We had a full and fun week
this week. Next week will be the Awareness Week at HIS. There will be
various activities and lessons to promote "Understanding" among all
students. The second grade class will be singing a song to celebrate
Awareness Week at the assembly on Friday at 2:20PM. Parents (as
always) are welcome to come in and watch.

In Math this week we continued with Chapter 2, Subtraction Strategies.
Next week we will conclude this chapter and start Chapter 3, Numbers
through 100.

In English this week we took a quiz on Unit 1, The Sentence. We also
started Unit 2, Writing a Personal Narrative. We will be going through
the writing process (prewriting, drafting, revising, proofreading,
and publishing). Each student will go through this process and I will
publish the stories on my blog once they are finished.

For Reading this week we focused on Poems. We read and discussed how
poems made us feel. The students had a chance to write their own poem
and produced some very nice work. Well done! Next week in we will read
the story called, "Henry and Mudge and the Starry Night".

In Social Studies we continued to focus on Governing the People. It
included taking a field trip around the school looking at government
services and also having a class election to decide our president,
governor and mayor. Next week we will continue with this unit.

Congratulations to William Lu for being this week's Student of the
Week. William has been giving 100% in participating in class. Keep up
the great work.
