4/30 Homework

Math WB 17.1 (Do what you are able to do. Don't worry if you don't have paper clips or blocks, you can measure it with something you do have like crayons or sticky notes)



Wednesday is the field trip to Flying Cow Ranch. http://www.flyingcow.com.tw/

- 8:30 - Buses will depart promptly. Please be at the school by 8.20am. Unless you get an email by 7:00pm on 4/30 canceling it (highly unlikely it will get canceled) 
- Morning - walk around the complex participate in activities
- 11:45 Lunch
- 1:10 - 2:10 painting activity
- 2:10 - 2:40 making ice cream
- 3:00 Buses will depart
Back to the school by 4:10

Students will need to bring an umbrella/raincoat, backpack, pencil, water bottle, appropriate clothes for walking around a ranch. 

Optional things to bring are snack, camera, hat and sun screen.

April 29 - May 1st


This week was highlighted by the Science Fair. The students enjoyed presenting their projects as well as looking at the other grade's experiments. Well done to all! Please enjoy the pictures below. 

In Math this week we have completed the chapter on Multiplication and Division. We will have a quiz on Monday. Next week we will also start Chapter 17, Length. 

In English this week we have finished Unit 8, Adjectives. Next week we will start the unit on Descriptive writing. 

In Social Studies we have been continuing with our unit of study, "People in the Marketplace". Next week we will look at trading and bartering.

heavy rain plan - the office will send a group email to teachers and parents by 7 pm on April 30th - teachers will post information on their blogs - rain date May 8

Students will need to bring an umbrella, water bottle, appropriate clothes for walking around a ranch. 

Optional things to bring are - balls/frisbee for lunch recess, snack, hat and sun screen. 

The school will provide a lunch for those children who normally eat the school lunch. If your child normally brings a lunch into school they will also need to bring their lunch on the field trip.

Congratulations to Shin Naito for being this weeks student of the week. Shin is an agreeable  classmate and always works to solve problems. Keep it up!





This month the annual government Outstanding Student Awards were given to one child from each of our elementary school classes. Students are selected by their schools based on several criteria including character, extra-curricular involvement and academics. Well done Taichi!

April 22-26


Good day once again. 

This upcoming week the Science Fair is finally upon us. The students have been working hard preparing their projects and presentations. Parents are welcome to come and check out all the Science Projects and listen to the students talk about their results this Wednesday (4/24) between 11:00-11:45 in the cafeteria. 

In English this week we have been continuing with our unit of study on Adjectives. Next week we will conclude this unit of study and take a quiz on Thursday.

This week we read a story called "Jalapeno Bagels" and next week we will read and discuss a story called "Carousel".

For Math the students have been learning and practicing multiplication this week. Next week we will continue to practice this and start looking at division.

In Social Studies this week we learned the process of turning natural resources into goods to sell in the marketplace. Next week we will look at "Trade and Barter" and "How Much and How Many". 

Congratulations to Kisa Koda for being the Student of the Week. She has been very helpful to our new student this week. She also has been speaking more in class. Keep it up.

April 15-19

Good day once again to all second grade blog followers. We had a very productive week this week. It was nice to speak with so many of you during the Parent Teacher Meetings. If you would like to follow up with anything that we discussed please stop by and see me or send an email. 

Next week we will have pottery day on Wednesday. Thank you for returning the payment slips so promptly. 

In Math this week we continued with Chapter 16 on "Time". Next week we will finish this chapter, take the Unit Test and start Chapter 19 "Division and Multiplication". We will return to complete chapters 17-18 after the Iowa tests. 

For Social Studies we have been learning about producers, consumers, goods, services, and the market place. Next week we will look at earning money, running a business and spending money. 

In Reading this week we read the story "Brothers and Sisters". Next we will read the story titled "Jalapeno Bagels".

For English we did a lot of practice with adjectives. 

In Science we have been getting our posters ready for the Science Fair. The Science Fair will be held on April 24th. The second graders will be presenting their experiments between 11:00-11:50 am. Parents are welcome to listen to the presentations. The fair will be held in the cafeteria/gym on B1. 

Information and payment slips have been sent home today for the field trip to take place on May 1st. Please return the completed form as soon as possible. 

Congratulations to Jessica Lin for being this week's Student of the Week. She was a good leader this week for her Science Project group and continues to always give 100% in class. Keep it up.

* Return the Pre-Conference Form as soon as possible. Please arrive slightly prior to your meeting time. We will have to keep the meeting time to 15 minutes if there is someone else scheduled right after you. If we need more time we can arrange another meeting. I'm looking forward to speaking with you.

* If you haven't brought in 250ntd for the pottery day please do so soon.


* Please let me know if you would like to have some extra practice at home for the upcoming Iowa Test. I can send a copy of the Bright Education, "How to prepare for the State Standards" example test for Grade 2. It's a lot of questions so maybe you can just choose some to do. Please just make a copy of the practice test and return the unwritten test to me as soon as you can so I may get the practice test to another student.
